"It was supposed to be an easy flight. My ticket said departure at 7:45 AM, and I had planned everything carefully. I set my alarm for 5:30 AM, giving me plenty of time to get ready, call a taxi, and reach the airport by 6:30 AM.

But things didn’t go as planned. The taxi was late. I had booked it for 5:45 AM, but by 6:00 AM, it still hadn’t arrived. I tried calling the company, but they kept saying, "The driver is on the way." At 6:10 AM, I had no choice but to book a ride with another app. By the time the car arrived, it was already 6:25 AM.

The drive to the airport took longer than expected due to morning traffic. I arrived at 7:05 AM, rushed to the check-in counter, and saw the worst message possible on the screen: Check-in Closed. My heart sank. The airline staff explained that check-in for my flight had closed at 7:00 AM sharp. Desperate, I ran to security, hoping I could still make it to the gate. I placed my bag on the conveyor belt, removed my shoes, and waited. But the security line moved too slowly.

By the time I reached the boarding gate, it was 7:40 AM, and the doors had already closed. My plane was still there, but I wasn’t allowed to board. I had missed my flight. I had to rebook my ticket. The next available flight was at 2:15 PM, which meant waiting for over six hours.

I paid the change fee and went to find a coffee shop to kill time. I checked the airport screens, looking at flight numbers, destinations, and boarding times. I noticed how many people were checking their phones, rushing to gates, or waiting at baggage claim.

It was a frustrating day, but I learned an important lesson: always plan extra time for unexpected delays. Next time, I’ll set my alarm even earlier and leave home at least three hours before my flight."

Vocabulário e Expressões Importantes

• Departure: Partida / Embarque.

• To plan everything carefully: Planejar tudo cuidadosamente.

• But things didn’t go as planned: Mas as coisas não saíram como o planejado.

• The driver is on the way: O motorista está a caminho.

• I had no choice but to...: Eu não tive escolha a não ser...

• Due to morning traffic: Devido ao trânsito da manhã.

• Check-in counter: Balcão de check-in.

• My heart sank: Meu coração gelou (expressão usada para um susto ou grande decepção).

• Conveyor belt: Esteira rolante (da segurança ou das malas).

• Boarding gate: Portão de embarque.

• To miss a flight: Perder um voo (Nota didática: nunca use 'lose a flight', o verbo correto para transportes perdidos por horário é sempre miss).

• To rebook: Remarcar a passagem / o voo.

• Change fee: Taxa de alteração ou remarcação.

• To kill time: Matar o tempo (passar o tempo esperando).

• Baggage claim: Área de retirada de bagagem.
